Alex the Astronaut
Alex the Astronaut (Alex Lynn) is a 21 year-old Australian folktronica songstress who has been living in New York for the past two years. She’s been completing her undergraduate studies there in mathematics and physics on a soccer scholarship while pursuing her musical goals. With a natural and rich tone reminiscent of “a young Vikki Thom” of the Waifs (according to ‘Who The Hell’ music blog) and her candid lyrics she aspires to tell stories like her heroes Paul Kelly and Bob Dylan. Alex’s first single, “Half of 21st Street,” recorded with Benjamin McCarthy (Gordi, Nyck, Kate Miller Heidke), was played on Triple J and caught the attention of blogs from around the world. She released her second single, “Holes in the Story” on the 13th May, which premiered on Something You Said. Tone Deaf premiered the music video for the song with an article titled “Getting to Know One of Australia’s Most Overachieving Musos.” Alex will be releasing her debut E.P. in September. She’s back in Sydney until August when she head’s back over to New York for her senior year.
"I like telling little stories. A healthy dose of Paul Kelly has only ever done anyone good. I want to take the long bus trips, and the taxi rides of my little world and show people why I think those funny little moments are the most important parts of our big and bold lives. I live in New York, I grew up in Sydney and I study Maths and Physics and I have lots of things that I've seen that I'd like to tell. I've been working with Benjamin McCarthy (Gordi, Nyck, Kate Miller-Heidke) through some bits of old tape and we've got a few songs we'd like to share with you”.
Alex The Astronaut’s songs “Half of 21st Street” and “Hole In The Story” have been getting exposure via Triple J and blogs around the world. She will return over Christmas/January to play some songs.
