ARIA award winner Michael Spiby is the frontman and founder of Australian band The Badloves.
His success with the band has seen him win three ARIA awards, two Australian Music Awards and toured internationally.

Initially setting out to become a teacher Spiby’s life changed after hearing a band sound-checking. He recalls ‘I stuck around for the gig and even though only about 20 people were there, they were just phenomenal. That gig instantly changed my career path.” The band was Cold Chisel. Many years later, Michael found himself in the Top 10 with Jimmy Barnes with The Badloves in the classic cover of ‘The Weight.’

Spiby is the writer behind ‘Green Limousine’, ‘Lost’ and ‘Caroline’ and has been an icon in the Australian music industry for over thirty years. He initially found success with his band The Badloves who dominated the Australian charts in the 1990s and released two studio albums before taking some time out – 1993s Get On Board (which spent 69 weeks on the charts, peaked at number five, won three ARIA Awards and went double platinum) and 1995s Holy Roadside (which went gold and reached number 14).

During the band’s hiatus he stated a successful solo career which produced ARIA nominated Ho’s Kitchen in 2000 and an acoustic L.P Barefoot in 2006 which saw him perform ‘au naturale’.

2017 is going to be a big year for Spiby with the Ho’s Kitchen tour, a new The Badloves album in the works and more shows added across the country. “It feels like we’re starting again,” Michael says. “We have to prove ourselves, which is very exciting.”
