“Track four, ‘Lady Eucalyptus’, is the best song Gow has written. I’ll go further: I think it is as good a song as you’ll ever hear written by anyone”. – Dave Faulkner, The Saturday Paper
“He’s not bad looking and generally pretty funny” – Mary Gow
With four critically acclaimed albums released over the past eight years, Alexander Gow, the Melbournian man behind Oh Mercy has kept us on his toes with his musical movements.
He introduced himself with 2009’s, much loved, stadium-lounge album Privileged Woes. Then he took a seat on the sofa with the gentle folk-pop of Great Barrier Grief. Cooked us tuna pasta with the bombastic, groove based, glam-rock of Deep Heat. Then recently called himself a taxi, with the lush and love-lorne, ARIA award winning ‘When We Talk About Love’.
Along with 2016’s best Adult Contemporary album Aria award, Oh Mercy has also been nominated the best Breakthrough Album award as well as the best Rock Album award. Not to mention a couple of Triple J Album of The Year award nominations along the way.
On top of a decade spent touring extensively with his ever-evolving live band, Gow has honed his craft as a solo performer, playing shows on his lonesome with the likes of Dan Kelly & Sultan.
The reviews have always been great, as have the shows.
With his fifth and most exciting album yet in the ‘can’, Gow is excited to be working with Parlour to bring a broad collection of the old and the new to non-traditional venues across the country.
