Melbourne singer/songwriter Simon Imrei returns with his second studio album, The Sum of Scenes, a double-disc collection of songs amassed over the four years since his debut, Branching Inward. A seasoned live performer, having toured with the likes of The Basics, Lachlan Bryan & The Wildes, The Weeping Willows & more, 2017 marks a welcome return for Imrei to performing his original music and reconnecting with audiences in both intimate acoustic settings, as well as in venues and at festivals with his full band lineup.
The release documents two distinct approaches to many of life’s situations, pairing upbeat, rhythmic and catchy positivity with moody, acoustic and stripped back folk in the two-disc collection. The latter follows Imrei’s recent foray into the alt-country, folk story-telling world, taking influence from the likes of Shane Nicholson, Jason Isbell, Iron & Wine and even local troubadour, Dan Parsons.
Recorded both at Salt Studios (East Brighton) and The Aviary (Abbotsford), the album showcases a diversity of songwriting, as well as many of Melbourne’s world-class musicians including Leigh Fisher (Gypsy & The Cat), Ben Franz (The Waifs), Gretta Ray, Josh Bridges (Mustered Courage), Gus Agars (Marlon Williams), Brooke Russell, Robbie Melville (Cleverhorse), Louise MacGregor (Louie & The Pride) & more.
Since his debut, Imrei has performed around Victoria both solo acoustic and in a trio format, bringing a mix of unique blues and soul inspired cover versions and songs from his catalogue – including two independently released acoustic EP’s - to life onstage. The Sum Of Scenes will be released in early 2018.
